I’m Laura (she / her)

Thank you for being here. If you’re interested in walk and talk therapy in Birmingham, here’s some information for you to explore. I’m Laura, a BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) registered counsellor. I offer outdoor therapy sessions that integrate my training as a therapist with approaches that explore nature as a resource that you can come back to outside of your therapy sessions.

If you’re looking for in-person therapy in Birmingham, in a more traditional indoor setting, you can check out this page.

Walking therapy is similar to the counselling I offer when working inside, but many of my clients find that the addition of fresh air, gentle exercise, and a less formal setting allows them to feel more present and connected. There are also the benefits that physical movement can bring in supporting us to move beyond stuckness, as well as the physiological impact of being surrounded by nature.

You could be coming to outdoor therapy to focus on a specific problem, or maybe you want to understand yourself and your experience better. You could just need a supportive space to be with your experience. What ever’s bringing you to counselling, you’ll find some more information below about things to think about if you’re considering therapy outside.

Some things to think about when
deciding whether walk and talk therapy is right for you

  • Sessions take place what ever the weather, although there is the possibility of moving sessions to my Stirchley therapy space in the case of very high winds or thunder storms

  • You’ll need to dress appropriately for the weather and be prepared for sudden changes, so that you’re comfortable throughout the session. I suggest that you bring layered clothing for warmth, along with waterproof clothing and waterproof footwear.

  • It is less easy to guarantee privacy and confidentiality in public spaces. This is something we’ll manage together to ensure that you feel as safe and supported as possible at all times.

  • Working inside can feel more containing and focussed for some people.

  • We will agree to take responsibility for our own safety whilst on site and bring precautions, including insect repellent and sun cream.

  • Walk and talk therapy sessions are £60 for 50 minutes.
