INTEGRATIVE
THERAPEUTIC
COUNSELLING

Counselling and somatic therapy in Stirchley, Birmingham and online via zoom. Providing safe, supportive and affirming counselling that works with the mind, body and nervous system.

I’m Laura (she / her)

Whether you’re new to counselling and therapy or taking the next step along your path, I’m glad that you’re here. It takes courage to face our struggles and explore the issues that impact us and I know from my own experience how daunting it can feel to begin this process.

My journey towards becoming a counsellor started with my experience of therapy as a client. Exploring my challenges in a safe, supportive and affirming space helped me to live a more connected and fulfilled life. I’ve also had experiences in therapy, as a neurodivergent woman, that weren’t safe so it’s incredibly important to me that the space I offer is LGBTQIA+ affirming, disability affirming, neurodiversity affirming, anti-racist and fat-positive. I’m always happy to share more about what this means in practice if you have an aspect (or intersectional aspects) of your identity that are impacted by oppression and you’re wondering whether I am the right fit for you.

You might want to focus on a specific struggle, or perhaps you want to understand yourself and your experience better. What ever your reasons for coming to counselling, I offer a collaborative space where you can connect with yourself while being seen, heard and supported. I am also passionate about the practical aspects of therapy and offering a space where you can explore build tools and resources that you can use outside of the therapy room, to support you to be more resilient as you respond to the inevitable challenges of being a human.

My approach as an integrative counsellor varies from person to person and we’ll work together to explore what’s right for you and what you need. The types of therapy I work with include psychodynamic, gestalt, humanist/person centered, acceptance and commitment therapy, and somatic trauma therapy. I’m also a licensed meditation teacher, a yoga teacher, a sound practitioner and I do work to facilitate wellbeing in nature.

You don’t necessarily need to work out whether any of these approaches are right for you, they’re simply tools that I’ll use to support you as we work together to explore the struggles or experiences that have led you to seek counselling. I aim to work in a way that’s transparent and collaborative because I believe that you are the person who best understands your experience in the world.

Courage doesn’t happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life

What you might want to explore in counselling

I offer both long term and short term counselling and sessions are available weekly or fortnightly. Whether you decide on six sessions of counselling or ongoing work, we’ll tailor your therapy to your goals and regularly review how we’re working together. I’ve touched on the types of therapy I work above. Some of the things you might want to explore in counselling include:

  • grief

  • autism, adhd or other neurodiversity

  • stress

  • life transitions

  • relationships, relationship patterns and relationship dynamics

  • depression and low mood

  • anxiety and anxiety disorders

  • trauma

  • identity

  • pain, chronic illness and other health issues

  • menopause

Outside of my work as a counsellor and therapist, I’m a meditation teacher, a sound practitioner, a space holder, a yoga teacher and a wellbeing in nature facilitator. While I don't always bring these elements into the counselling room, it's safe to say I believe that a holistic approach that works with the mind, body and nervous system can be hugely beneficial.

My approach is trauma informed and rooted in safely connecting with yourself and your experience, in a way that works for you. That might mean focussing on what's happening for you in the here and now, or exploring the past and how it affects the present. What ever you're wanting to explore, I'm here to support you.

While I don’t exclusively work with Autistic and ADHD clients, I’m both ADHD and Autistic myself which gives me a unique perspective when providing neurodiversity affirming counselling. I’m also committed to providing counselling that affirms anyone who experiences marginalisation because of any aspect of their identity, including the LGBTQI+ community. Everyone is welcome here.
